Kansas City Hey Hey Hey

So this past Monday was Patriot's Day (and the Boston Marathon). I took advantage of The Airlines not taking advantage of the holiday and headed home to Kansas City. I had set a tight schedule for the three days and only had a few delays, rearrangements, and missed two stops. All in all it was a great trip with the perfect weather and the perfect people.

Flew in Saturday morning, picked up my $4.98/day (thank you very much) rental car and headed to Arrow Cleaners. I found an amazing jacket in Phoenix at an even more amazing price that needed a good cleaning and I think we all know Arrow is the best, so I mailed it to them. Perfect! Next on the agenda was CVS for a refill and then on to Broadway Cafe (the roasting local) to pick up espresso beans for M. Next stop, the Mill Street Sun Fresh for Arthur Bryant's BBQ sauce; one for M & me and one for a friend at work. On to American Apparael for a last minute pair of tights and then Halls. I could have spent all three days there chatting with friends! On to a lunch date with Angie at West Side Local where we ran into the Nerds of Nerd Bots! Hair appointment at Julie's new salon, Speak! where my appointment ended up taking over three hours. What a delay that neither of us predicted and called for rearranging. On to Jim's swanky house to hang, then a surprise birthday party at the Flea Market (where I indulge with a medium rare cheddar Mini Market and a PBR), then back to Jim's where I nearly passed out.

On to Angie's cutie pie house for the night, a chat in the morning, and then Helga's for breakfast. Oh Helga! She's such a strong woman, inspiring, convicted, and has a warm heart. On to newly weds Albert and Meredith where I got to see their glorious pictures from the wedding M and I regrettably missed in Miami. Next stop was my dad's where I spent several hours catching up and collecting more of Mom's things. An 1 1/2 hour drive down to Emporia to spend the night with my grandparents who had dinner waiting for me, even though I arrived at 8:30 at night. Grandma and I chatted so much about everything under the sun, had lunch with my uncle at the university student union, helped out some with the computer (as I do on all my visits) and then made the 2 1/2 hour drive back to the airport. The non stop flight back to Boston was easy complete with tea and chocolate chip cookies.

The two stops I missed due to time: Hammerpress and Chris Elbow's.

Needless to say, it was a great trip!

best yogurt

If I haven't mentioned it before, I'll say it again: I love that Whole Foods is out our back door....literally! A couple months ago I noticed a new yogurt on the shelf that caught my eye by the simple packaging and the price...$2.49!!!! $2.49 for a little cup of Icelandic style yogurt? I had to try so I bought just one. It was so different! Velvety thick, clear flavors, and unbelievebly good for you! Better than Greek yogurt! After that I decided I'd buy one a week as a treat to my health. When it went on sale for 3/$7 I went nuts and bought six. Oy! Even still, the price ended up not bothering me after the initial shock because I've got to take care of myself and it's soo goood fooor yoooou!

Moo Moo goes the cow for Siggi's Icelandic Style Skyr Yogurt!

Happy Day for the Earth

On my walk to work on this gorgeous morning, I was thinking of the ways of how I show our earth my love:
1. I walk to work.
2. I take 3-5 minute showers five times a week.
3. I take a 10 minute shower twice a week when I shampoo my hair.
4. I don't use plastic bags when shopping.
5. I use the paper grocery bag for my trash bag.
6. I eat natural and organic foods that I buy on a need basis so I waste very little.
7. I have only low energy light bulbs.
8. I turn the lights off!
9. I take public transportation.
10. We make a point to buy vintage clothes & furniture; another way of recycling.
11. I turn the water off when I'm washing my face or brushing my teeth.
12. I rescued Molly Cat who was a homeless kitty.
13. I tend plants in my home.
14. I'm not a litter bug.

I'd been thinking about how we need to do a much better job of recycling paper, plastics, aluminum, and glass. I think the primo reason we've been failing at this obvious Earth-loving habit is because 1.) It's not convenient to our building, and 2.) We have virtually no storage to keep a collection of cans and papers between drop offs. My self assignment is to reorganize (my fave hobby) under the kitchen sink to make room for a can/plastic and paper collection. We can do it! Every little bit helps in giving our planet an everlasting hug.

rapunzel, rapunzel, let down your long hair

I think everyone in fashion cannot get enough of Alexander Wang's Spring 2010 collection. I've read that stylists have been asked to quit using his open toe lace up boots from this particular show as they have been showing up everywhere throughout the industry. I love the clothes, love the shoes, love the makeup, but totally love the hair.

If I only had long hair....

...If I only didn't think salon extensions was a massive waste of money....

For now, I'm working the short version....though still too short to go over the shoulder.

Just because

I've had a lot of things going on and just haven't felt like creating new entries. Just so this post isn't a total waste, I'll list a few highlights of my recent living...

1. House hunting
2. Trip to Phoenix for Passover
3. Last Chance
4. Leslie's visit
5. Carrot Cake
6. Symphony Concerts
7. Laryngitis
8. Searching for a new handbag
9. Showing Michael all the handbags
10. Managing my undying desire for a new handbag while being mindful of responsible financial management.
